Co-Curricular Activities
1
Hi! Club (Ngee Ann Polytechnic)
I was a member of the 'Hi! Club' from 2018 to 2019. This is a CCA that focuses on teaching and raising awareness of sign language. Through this CCA, I was able to gain basic skills of signing.
In the 2019 Opening Ceremony, I was a member of the planning committee. I was assigned to the IT group which I hold responsibilities in taking photographs, recording videos, as well as editing a group of committee members. From this opportunity, I was able to learn how to adapt to situations quickly. It was important especially during moments where I had to prepare for my signing performance and still ensuring everything is captured by the camera. Besides that, I was able to learn how to work and also be able to learn from my members respectfully. Almost all of my team members were more familiar with how to work the camera. Instead of keeping quiet, I ensured that I clarified with them. This not only helped me to learn more about using the professional cameras in a better way but also forging new friendships.
This is the video I had recorded and edited by myself for the compilation of the 'Planning Committee' video. The compilation has been published on the NP Hi! Club's YouTube channel.
This is a compilation of all the edited videos and ending off with a performance video from the Planning Committee.
I had also participated in a Sign Language Instructor camp organized by the committee members of this CCA. In this camp, I was able to get to know the other members from this CCA and worked alongside them. One of the activities that I was able to challenge myself was, conducting a lesson as a Sign Language instructor. I had to work with a partner that I have never worked with before. It allowed me to hone my problem-solving skills through scenarios acted out by the judges and communication skills where I had to decide on what to do with my partner and also how to teach the class. From this opportunity, I was able to practice my sign language skills in a way where I had also come out of my comfort zone. I had to interact with many people that I did not know previously and worked alongside them despite the short period of knowing.
