Modules in Ngee Ann Poly
This is a compilation of several modules during my Year 1 & Year 2.
Children Health & Socio-Emotional (CHSE)
This is a poster advocating for healthy eating in young children. Through this assignment, I was able to gain different skills:
-
Research skills: I had to collect and organise the contents of my poster to ensure the right content was delivered. Without research, I may have created a poster that was not credible and the information shared may have been incorrect. Hence through this assignment, it has taught me research is crucial as it helps to make my work more credible.
-
Arts and Creative Expression: Creating a poster does not only revolve around placing the right information. It also need to capture the target audience's attention. With this assignment, I was able to explore my creative side. Previously I was not confident and believed I had no artistic skills. However after completing this assignment, I felt that I do have at least the basic skills in making my poster more attention grabbing.
IT Applications (1TETL)
This is brochure for a Kindergarten concert. The target audience for this would be the parents and family of the children involved in this concert. Through this assignment, I was able to know what are the important elements needed in a publicity tool like this. This is an essential skill as I would be creating plenty of publicity materials as a form to reach out to parents, when I am working.
Language & Literacy (1LADEL)
This is a Lapbook based on the storybook 'Tiny Tantrum'. It is a group assignment where I worked alongside my 3 other team members. We have come up with 4 different activties where the children can do in pairs.
From this assignment, I was able to work on my teamwork and communication skills. This two skills were important in completing this assignment successfully. I had to communicate with my friends effectively and had to lay out my ideas in a manner where they would udnerstand. Communicating with one another constantly and in a positive and respectful manner was always occurring. Sewing the base of the lapbook and compiling all the activties, to make the end product required all of our efforts together. As we work together, we were able to standardise the layout of the 4 different activties and the flow of it. Hence, I believe that through this assignment I was able to work on enhancing my teamwork and communication skills.
Year 1
Early Mathematics (1EMATHS)
For this group assignment, we had to create a toolkit, a size of a shoebox. The toolkit focuses on the numeracy learning area. My team had use the storybook 'Sitting down to eat' as the inspiration and theme of our toolkit. There were various activties that the children could be engaged with.
This is a video demonstration of how our activities are to be done. I was the editor of this video. Hence, I was able to practise my editing skills as I compile the videos and embedded texts too.
Env & Social Awareness in Children (1ESAC)
I had created a video explaining how the children would be doing an experimentation that involves them to be exposed to predicting and recording skills. This touches on the 'Discovery of the World' learning area where children learn about the concept of waterproof but in a simpler term "is it wet to the bottom?". I have also created a predicting and recording sheet for children based on the 4 materials they would experiment on for this lesson.
With this, I have gained valuable information on how to create and implement a lesson that is based on exploration. Despite it being a demonstration video, I was able to learn how to present my ideas confidently while ensuring that it is addressed in an engaging manner. I was also able to practise my editing skills as I had to include texts and ensuring that the video fits the time limit.
Psychology of Exceptional Children (2PEC)
In this module, I was tasked to create an infographic on parental involvement. I have included the definition, the importance, and how to encourage parental involvement. I was not only gaining knowledge on the importance of parental involvement but also how I should organise and present my ideas in a clear and engaging manner.
