New Life Stories

1

New Life Stories (NLS) is a non-profit organisation. I have been an active learning friend under this organisation since 2018. I serve the children with incarcerated parents; especially mothers, in the form of visiting them weekly.

As a learning friend, I would have to attend a weekly at-home session where I read to the children (ages 3 to 10). On some sessions, I would do some activties that I have planned out by myself, to get them to be more negaged.

From 2018 to 2019, I was attached to two different families. The first family has 3 children which are ages 3, 4, and 5 respectively. The second family has 4 children ages 5, 6, 9, and 10. Since end of 2019, I was attached to the second family only.

In July 2020, I was featured in Youth.SG to share my experience as a learning friend.

#SayNotoSharkFins

2

I had volunteered with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 2017. I had to advocate for saying no to shark fins where I went around the convention at Marina Bay Sands, and getting people to pledge for it. Besides this, I had also man the booth where there were games on other type of fishes that are facing extinction.

2015 Project Bloom

3

I had participated in this event that was organised by the Marine Parade CC YEC. In my small group, we were tasked to clean a house in the Marine Parade district. The house that I was tasked to clean was owned by a single mum who had several young children. She is the sole breadwinner as her husband was serving his sentence in prison. Through this experience, I learnt to be more compassionate and empathetic to people around me.
